Bayonne Book Club: House in the Cerulean Sea

Bayonne Book Club: House in the Cerulean Sea In-Person / Online

Come and join Bayonne Public Library and Mamas in Bayonne for our monthly Bayonne Book Club! The club meets on the last Thursday of each month, at 7 pm. While the library and its meeting spaces are under renovation, we will be meeting at BayOwn’s Vendor Market, a local goods store, located at 920 Broadway.

All are welcomed and encouraged to attend. Parents and caregivers are welcome to bring their kiddos, if needed, to the book club! The genre / theme of the books chosen will vary from month to month.

This month’s meeting will be on Thursday, June 29th at 7 pm and we will be reading: “House in the Cerulean Sea” by TJ Klune. Attendees can join in-person or virtually via Zoom. To attend virtually, please sign up via the links in our profile or via the library event page here:

What’s the book about? Linus Baker leads a quiet, solitary life. At forty, he lives in a tiny house with a devious cat and his old records. As a Case Worker at the Department in Charge Of Magical Youth, he spends his days overseeing the well-being of children in government-sanctioned orphanages. When Linus is unexpectedly summoned by Extremely Upper Management he's given a curious and highly classified assignment: travel to Marsyas Island Orphanage, where six dangerous children reside: a gnome, a sprite, a wyvern, an unidentifiable green blob, a were-Pomeranian, and the Antichrist. Linus must set aside his fears and determine whether or not they’re likely to bring about the end of days. But the children aren’t the only secret the island keeps. Their caretaker is the charming and enigmatic Arthur Parnassus, who will do anything to keep his wards safe. As Arthur and Linus grow closer, long-held secrets are exposed, and Linus must make a choice: destroy a home or watch the world burn.

How can you participate? Bayonne Public Library has eBook and eAudiobook copies already available via hoopla as well as physical book copies, which are available for you to borrow now. If you’d prefer to purchase your own physical copy, we recommend purchasing from The Little Boho Bookshop, our favorite local bookshop, located at 164A Broadway or online at https://thelittlebohobookshop.com/

Happy reading and see you soon!
